Diary of a Tat Wanker and Other Stories....
Why am I joining Substack?
Hello, welcome, come on in, throw your keys in the pot and make yourself comfortable.
You may know me from my Instagram ‘70s House Manchester’ or you may have seen me on the television, either larking about on BBC 1 ‘The Bidding Room’ or even on ‘70s Dinner Party’ on C5, or you may know me from my best selling book ‘70s House - A bold homage to the most decade in design’, or you may just know me as the mum who looks like she’s rolled around in a paint store and gone on the school run. However you know me, you are of course most welcome.

Who am I? Well I am a slightly sweary mum, a midlander who has ended up in Manchester with her husband, child, and ancient cat, Elvis. I worked in luxury fashion, in London for 29 years as a Technical Designer, before I got sprogged up and moved northwards, which is where my current life really began, much like a butterfly emerging from my cocoon, everything good in my life started once I moved here.
Why Substack? Why not? It feels really exciting to be writing on a platform geared towards writers and building a supportive community. I love the fact I can write, what I want, when I want and publish it in a corner of the interweb which is mine, a place where I can share parts of my life, recipes, funny stories, my car boot wins and general day to day musings which I feel unable to share on other social media platforms. This is where you will get a better idea of who I am and what makes me tick.
What to expect? I will try to write weekly, twice if I can about a range of subjects that I feel you lot might be interested in. I say you lot, but what I will be doing is writing about what interests me, and if that works for you I think we are onto a win win situation here.
I want to write about many things that inspire me, musings on interior design, cookery, DIY, clothing, history, and then I’ll probably throw some wild cards in regarding my other loves, things you might not expect, the many things that float my boat and I hope will interest you too. So if you love retro design, all things weird and the colour orange then you most likely have ended up in the right place.
I also want to get to know you better, I want to hear what you want to read, what piques your interest and hopefully to learn, not only from others, but through my own writings.
The tricky subject of subscriptions…
I get that this is a subscription based platform and some of you are already put off by this concept, and honestly I don’t mind if you subscribe for free, you are more than welcome to come along and join the 70s house party, I hope that a free post once we week or so will keep you coming back for more. But if you are hungry for MORE then there will be an option for a paid subscription whereby you can access the inner workings of the mind of a tat w@nker, maybe I’ll even let you into my deepest and darkest tat secrets, all the behind the scenes gossip and even agony aunt type situations.
I won’t be charging at first, just so you can get a taste for what is to come, but at some point I’ll be switching on the option for more exclusive content, and I am telling you now as I want to be totally transparent with you all. When I do, i’ll let you know and I’ll most likely be doing an introductory offer on subscriptions.
Well, there it is, the first post done and dusted, wasn’t all that bad and I’ll let you into your first secret, I’ve been putting this post off a month because simply where does one start, but now I have, WATCH OUT!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ….
Big retro love and kisses
E x
